Root Canal Treatment
Solving Tooth Pain and Improving Oral Health
A root canal is a routine, non-surgical procedure that involves removing damaged or inflamed tissue from the soft inner portion of a tooth (the pulp). Modern technology and advanced dental techniques have made root canal treatments more effective, and less painful, than ever before. At Central Minnesota Endodontics, we’re committed to delivering high-quality root canal therapy that prioritizes our patients’ comfort.

Restoring Your Teeth to Their Healthy, Pain-Free Best
Pulp damage that requires a root canal can be caused by cavities, cracks, improperly healed dental procedures, periodontal disease, trauma and more. A root canal offers many benefits, including:
- Saving your natural tooth.
- Protecting adjacent teeth from excessive strain.
- Promoting efficient chewing and normal biting force.
- Giving your smile a natural appearance.
If you’re experiencing tooth pain, a root canal may be the best way to preserve your natural tooth.
Our Process

Examination
We’ll begin by discussing the symptoms you’ve experienced and reviewing any concerns your dentist has noted. After that, we’ll examine and take X-rays of your tooth to make an accurate diagnosis.

Preparation
To ensure your comfort, we’ll start by administering a local anesthetic to numb the area around your tooth during the procedure. Next, we’ll place a small rubber sheet (called a dental dam) around the tooth to keep it dry and clean.

Removing & Shaping
We’ll begin by creating a small opening in the crown of your tooth. Using tiny instruments, we’ll clean out the tooth, removing inflamed or infected pulp from the inner chamber and canals. We’ll also shape the canals to make them easier to disinfect.

Filling
Once the tooth is cleaned and shaped, we’ll fill the canals with a material called gutta-percha, and seal it with an adhesive cement. In most cases, we’ll close the opening with a temporary filling. You may need to return to your general dentist to complete the final restoration of your tooth. For more detailed information on root canal treatment, visit the American Association of Endodontists.
